Content
Using the WCF Ice Technician Manual (Curling Ice Explained – CIE) numerous topics will be discussed and demonstrated:
  • The development of the game and its demand on curling ice
  • Specific definition of curling ice, game tactics
  • The floors of a curling rink
  • Measuring, painting and the lines
  • Actual ice installation
  • Flooding
  • Curling ice in an arena
  • Maintaining the ice pad (scraping, etc.)
  • Routines and equipment, end of season maintenance
  • Pebbling
  • Temperature and other readings
  • Humidity, heating and ventilation, lighting
  • Water, ice and curling stone quality
  • The refrigeration system and energy
Rules & Requirements
All participants must be able to understand and communicate in English.
Itinerary
The course is 5 days long and runs all days from 09:00h - 18:00h. Some days might run longer in the evening.
Bring warm clothing and suitable footwear for working on the ice and also bring clothes which may get dirty while we paint the ice!

  • Deputy Chief Ice Technician at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, Chief and Deputy Chief Ice Technician at Worlds, Pacific's and Europeans for more than 15 years, with ice installation and ice making experience on a global basis dating back more than 20 years.

  • Chief Ice Technician at World, World Junior and European Curling Championships for more than 10 years and, before that, Assistant Ice Technician for more than 7 years at different events

All participants in the WCF Courses must arrange their own accommodation. Please check the website http://www.fuessen.de/service/unterkunftssuche.html for hotel prices and availability.
Please note, that Füssen is very busy in June and July – so an early booking is recommended.
Füssen offers rooms from approx. 40 Euros per person – but in their busy summer holiday season the prices may vary.
There are all different types of accommodation available: youth-hostel type accommodation, guest houses, apartments, hotels etc.
